Ethiopia's coffee export revenue reaches unprecedented levels, growing by 35% compared to same period last year.
Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, has achieved a historic milestone in its coffee export sector during the first quarter of 2025. The Ethiopia Coffee and Tea Authority reported export revenues exceeding $450 million, marking a 35% increase from Q1 2024.
This remarkable growth is attributed to several factors including improved harvesting techniques, direct trade relationships with international buyers, and the rising global demand for specialty coffee. European markets, particularly Germany and Scandinavia, remain the primary destinations, while emerging markets in Asia show increasing interest.
"The quality of Ethiopian coffee continues to impress global buyers," said the Authority's spokesperson. "Our farmers' dedication to traditional cultivation methods combined with modern processing techniques has positioned Ethiopian coffee as a premium product in the international market."
The Sidama and Yirgacheffe regions led production volumes, with their distinctive flavor profiles commanding premium prices. The government's investment in coffee research and farmer training programs has also contributed to improved quality and yield.
